Surgical Orthodontics

When a bigger correction is the right one.

For bite and jaw discrepancies too significant for braces or aligners alone — orthodontics and jaw surgery, planned together.

How It Works

A coordinated plan, not two separate ones.

Some bite and jaw discrepancies — like a significant overbite, underbite, or facial asymmetry — are more a matter of jaw position than tooth position. In those cases, braces or aligners alone can straighten teeth within a jaw that's still misaligned. Surgical orthodontics (orthognathic surgery) repositions the jaw itself, with orthodontic treatment before and after to make sure your bite comes together correctly.

Dr. Wiktorski handles the orthodontic planning and coordinates directly with an oral & maxillofacial surgeon for the surgical phase, so your case is managed as one continuous plan rather than two disconnected treatments.

  • For jaw-size or jaw-position discrepancies beyond what braces or aligners can correct alone
  • Pre-surgical orthodontics align teeth in preparation for surgery
  • Close coordination with a trusted oral & maxillofacial surgeon for the surgical phase
  • Post-surgical orthodontics fine-tune the bite once the jaw has healed

What patients ask before starting

That's determined at your evaluation, based on your 3D imaging and how your jaws relate to each other — not just how your teeth look. Many cases that look severe can still be treated without surgery; Dr. Wiktorski will tell you plainly either way.
An oral & maxillofacial surgeon performs the surgical phase. Dr. Wiktorski manages the orthodontic treatment before and after, and coordinates closely with the surgical team throughout.
It varies by case, but typically includes a period of pre-surgical orthodontics, the surgery itself, and a period of post-surgical orthodontics to finalize the bite — often a year or more in total.

You don't have to decide today.
